My 5 Top Homepage MUST-Haves!

In order for your website to be an effective marketing tool for your business, it must do 2 things:

1.  LOAD FAST and
2.  SELL.

Your website is not there just to dispense information.  You want it to be effective in persuading visitors to buy whatever it is you are selling, be it products or services.

So... here's a list of my TOP 5 Homepage Must-Haves!

1.  Contact Info.  Don't hide your contact info on its own special page somewhere in the deep abyss of your website.  If you want customers to reach you, you will have to make this info incredibly easy to access.
Whatever contact info you choose to provide (address, email, phone) should be readily displayed on EVERY page of your website.  I prefer the top right hand corner of the page... but that's just me.  A separate contact page is also useful... especially when you include a map to your business.

2.  Your USPs.  What the heck is that??!!  Your USP is your unique selling proposition, or in other words... What do you do differently from your competitors?  An easy way to do this is to use the words "Why Choose Us? -And then answer your own question.  Don't make this brain surgery.  Simply list 3 or 4 things that set you apart from the rest!

3.  A Call to ACTION.  What do you want your customers to do after they look at your site?  Tell them!  Here are some examples: "Register Now", "Call Now", "Book Your Session Today", "Get Started Right Away".  Let them know what you want them to do... and make it easy for them to do it.

4.  A Subscribe Form.  Build your mailing list by collecting the email addresses of your website visitors, so that you can contact them later when you have something special to offer them.  A great way to do this is by offering free tips or news via email.  An auto-responder service works well for this.  With this type of tool, you can stay in touch with potential customers through email.  One I love is Mail Chimp.  It's free, and super easy to use.  I can send monthly emails to my contacts, and they can benefit from the tips I share each month.

5.  A Consistent "Look".  The look or mood of your homepage should reflect your business.  If you have a brick and mortar space, the look of your space should relate to your website.  Color schemes, logos, and photography should match both in the real world and the virtual one.  Branding goes both ways.  Building a brand requires consistency in all of these areas.
